Towards more equal power relations in physical education: power, resistance and social transformation

We currently find ourselves living in precarious times of segregation with old and new inequities on the rise. One space where such is (re)produced school physical education (PE). Despite decades critical research curriculum reforms, PE still typically delivered an emphasis skill learning associated competitive sport. Relatedly, continues to make ‘friends enemies’ which leads inequitable educational outcomes issues that can transcend beyond classroom. So, what makes its practices so resistant change? Our interest as scholars lies examining power: nature power, how power works, unequal relations are constructed maintained but ultimately become a for more equal relations. That is, we believe practice difference. In this paper, will discuss seemingly change through theoretical lens Foucault.
